Purpose-built for HV cable testing and diagnostics The HV DAC series (HV DAC-200 and HV DAC-300) is designed for after-laying acceptance testing of newly installed HV cable systems and for condition analysis of service-aged or repaired circuits. Using damped AC (DAC) voltage, you can perform standardised testing and partial discharge (PD) diagnostics with localisation in one transportable system.

Choose the right model

  • HV DAC-200: for cables rated up to 132 kV (monitored commissioning tests in line with IEC 60840 and IEEE 400.4).
  • HV DAC-300: for cables rated up to 230 kV (monitored commissioning tests in line with IEC 62067 and IEEE 400.4).


Designed for practical field work

  • Compact footprint for narrow indoor substations and restricted switchyards.
  • Fast logistics and installation: the system can be erected on-site by 2–4 people without cranes, and typically set up within about 30 minutes.
  • Low power demand (max. 4 kVA), reducing generator requirements and simplifying mobilisation.
  • High testable capacitance (up to 8 µF) supports long cable circuits (typically 50 m to 32 km; for shorter lengths, a support capacitor is used).

PD diagnostics you can trust

DAC test frequency is close to nominal service conditions, so measured PD activity is comparable to power frequency. The decaying voltage waveform also makes it straightforward to determine PD inception voltage (PDIV) and PD extinction voltage (PDEV). The system includes an integrated PD measuring and localisation unit, with fully automatic calibration, live PD mapping during the measurement, and reporting by mouse click. All results are stored in an integrated cable database for traceable asset decisions.

How it works

The system consists of a notebook control unit and modular high-voltage components (HV source, electronic switch and resonance inductor) that generate a damped AC test voltage. A dedicated unit integrates the HV divider and coupling capacitor for PD detection and localisation, helping you capture high-fidelity PD data while applying the test voltage. During a test, the software guides you step-by-step, from cable set-up and safety checks to measurement, evaluation and reporting. This workflow is designed to reduce user variability and help teams deliver consistent results across multiple circuits and sites.

From acceptance to asset management

PD activity is widely used as an early warning indicator of deterioration in HV cable insulation and accessories. By identifying, evaluating and locating PD sources offline, HV DAC measurements support targeted maintenance planning and cost-effective refurbishment decisions, rather than time-based interventions.
